About the castle
Warwick Castle began life in 1068 as a wooden motte-and-bailey fortress built on the orders of William the Conqueror. Over the centuries it grew into the stone stronghold you can explore today, home to earls, kingmakers and monarchs and shaped by more than a millennium of English history.
Wander the state rooms and the Great Hall, climb Caesar's Tower and Guy's Tower for spectacular views over Warwickshire, then head down to the riverside to see the world's largest working siege machine — the mighty trebuchet — thunder into action.
Beyond the castle walls, 64 acres of grounds designed by Capability Brown roll down to the River Avon, with a Victorian rose garden, peacock lawns, woodland walks and a bustling knight's village to explore.
